Les Univers de GemGenève #17

In the world of jewellery, subjects are as diverse and varied as the galaxies that make up the jewellery universe of GemGenève. For its seventh season, the podcast Il était une fois le bijou explores a new nebula: diamonds beyond the brilliant cut.

In this episode, Avnish Shah of Glittering Gems and Rajanish Sutariya of Great Diam take us into a fascinating world of diamonds with unusual shapes, colours and cuts. Table cuts, rose cuts, old mine cuts… These historical cuts, developed before electricity and modern machinery, are now enjoying a revival in contemporary jewellery.

Throughout the conversation, they explore the craftsmanship required to recreate these historic cuts, the growing demand for unique and non-repeatable stones, and the often unseen role of diamond dealers and cutters. These exceptional diamonds do not follow the same standards of valuation as brilliant cuts; their value lies in their rarity, individuality, craftsmanship and, above all, in the emotion they inspire. An episode celebrating creativity, patience and the transmission of expertise, where a diamond becomes much more than a precious stone: a unique object carrying its own story, and perhaps one day, a family heirloom passed from one generation to the next.
