For its 10th edition, GemGenève presented an immersive exhibition celebrating the artisan’s skilled hand and the transformation of raw materials into exceptional works of art.
Bringing together more than 130 works from institutional and private collections, the exhibition explored the dialogue between nature and craftsmanship through materials such as imperial jade, onyx, amber and coral, highlighting their beauty and the expertise required to transform them. Our sincere thanks go to all the lenders, institutional partners and contributors who helped bring this exhibition to life.
The Fondation Baur presented an exceptional selection of jades, exhibited outside the museum for the first time in Geneva, while the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Genève (MAH) showcased rare objects reflecting the richness of Swiss and international craftsmanship. The exhibition also featured loans from Nicolas Torroni, Faerber Collection and Ernst Faerber, alongside contributions from the Natural History Museum of Geneva.
Special thanks to the Association Gemmologie & Francophonie for their invaluable contribution to the exhibition labels accompanying the gemstones, offering visitors insights into their characteristics and origins, as well as to Ulli Freyer, Elsa Marceau and Hervé Obligi, whose participation in round-table discussions and live workshops offered a closer look at these exceptional crafts.
Co-curated by Pauline d’Abrigeon, Estelle Fallet and Mathieu Dekeukelaire, the exhibition celebrated material, time and precious savoir-faire, revealing how craftsmanship transforms raw materials into art. Special thanks to Laurent Kariv and Mathieu Grondin for creating this incredible video.
